HousMi was created by a group of students from the University of Rochester in April 2019.
Our goal is to provide better housing insight and take away the stress in the process of finding off-campus housing.

After reading the feedback, we found out their feedbacks can be grouped into two major kinds. The first type of question is whether we will keep Housmi free for users or not since there will be a lot of preliminary investment. And the second is that how can we remain competitive to others similar website.
Giving the time to think about this, we come up with the answers. We believe that we will never charge any fee to the users because our goal is to provide better and free access to Rochester students, and this will not be changed even in the future. To break-even our costs or generate profit, our solution is to provide an online advertising service for apartments. We will put the partner apartments at the top of HousMi's search engine page and charge them for advertisement fees. We will label clearly which apartments are advertised, so our customers can recognize which is an ad and which is not. We will continue to make sure the authenticity of every review on our advertised apartment. If users’ feedbacks are negative to the advertised apartment, we will shut it down immediately.
We are an aggregated apartment website that focuses on Rochester students who want to live off-campus, so the number of our users will not be huge which our cost can be controlled at a reasonable level. Due to the fact that the major parts of our cost include the cost in the initial stage of building website/application and web maintenance fee in the future, I am confident that we can get enough investment to cover our cost in long-term as soon as we grow to a bigger user base.
To answer the second question, I must list out our advantage in the first place.
- Find Roommate feature: We have a function that our competitors do not have.
- The authenticity of the reviews: All reviews are from students who live there.
- We are more accessible and convenient cause we have better user’s interface.
Comparing with Rent Rochester, we have a different market since we are focusing on apartments rather than townhouses. As for some other apartment search websites, they often serve nationwide which it cannot update in real-time and cannot even make sure the correctness of the apartment information. Take Apartments.com as an example, we have found a lot of false apartment information on its websites, such as the availability, the lease length, and the price of the apartments. Besides, people can not be sure about the authenticity of the review on their sites.
Overall, our future goal is to grow our user's population and seeking potential collaborate chance to Rochester's apartments.
